You might have thought about buying a used one, which can seem like a good way to shave down costs. A lot of people get really nervous about the cost of a transmission replacement. After all, you might have always heard that this is a very expensive repair. Depending on where you buy the transmission from, who does the work and what type of car you have, you might find that buying a new transmission will be more affordable than you think. It's always a good idea to look into the cost of a brand new transmission first; then, you might find that buying new is actually within your budget after all.

It Might Have a Lot of Wear and Tear

Another thing that you should consider is the fact that a used transmission might have a lot of wear and tear. This means that even if the transmission does work well now, there's a strong chance that it will wear out a lot more quickly than a new one would. The good news is that if you buy a brand new transmission, you may find that the transmission will have a long warranty. This means that if something goes wrong with it during the warranty period, you may be able to have the transmission repaired or replaced for free. If you buy a used transmission, on the other hand, there is a very good chance that it will not have a warranty at all. If it does, the warranty period will generally be short, meaning that if problems occur in a few months, the transmission might not be covered anymore.
