Out-Of-Control Parking For Special Events And How To Control It

by Dennis Fletcher

Every city in this nation frequently holds some special, city-wide event. Street fairs, art fairs, and Oktoberfest are the most common special events. These events draw crowds by the thousands (sometimes tens of thousands!). When that happens, visitors are scrambling for parking, and they are getting out of control. If a parking lot for a church or store has openings, people will practically crash into each other to steal a stall. If your city experiences parking issues to this extent for your special event, invest in parking control equipment like the options below:

Sawhorse Barriers

Black and white-stripe painted sawhorses have always been used to prevent cars from crossing into parking lots where they are not allowed. Local police may have several of these barriers you can ask to borrow for parking lots around town that do not want the vehicle traffic taking up space for non-customers. While most people are willing to obey these barriers, others may not. For that reason, you may need other parking control equipment.

Toll Booths with Swing Arms

You can either buy or rent toll booths with swing arms for times like these. The booths are not automatic, so you will need to have someone inside the booths monitoring the comings and goings of people in their vehicles. It may also be a good idea to charge for entry, which often deters those who would prefer to look for less complicated parking elsewhere.

As a car attempts to pull in and is stopped by the arm in the down position, the guard in the booth takes payment and then manually lifts the arm so the driver can go through. The arm is moved back down and the process is repeated until the lot is full. The guard can then post a notice on the outside of the toll booth to alert other drivers that the lot is full so that nobody tries to park in the aisles or do other unlawful things.

Request Police Assistance

If a sawhorse or toll booth is not enough (and we all know that there are drivers out there who may charge through both!), then you might want to request some assistance from the police. One or two community or junior officers is sufficient to keep the peace. If anyone is stubborn enough to create trouble during a city-wide event while these officers are attempting to protect your lot, they may find themselves in a jail cell rather than at the festivities.

About Me

Never Ignore the Signs of a Car Problem

My parents surprised me with a car as a high school graduation gift. It wasn't brand new, but it looked great and ran very well. Everything was going well with it until one day it started making a funny noise that I just ignored. My check engine light also came on sometimes, but sometimes it would shut off. I ignored this all and decided my car was just "quirky." One day, I was driving a long distance to a friends house and my car "died" at a stop light. I then regretting ignoring the signs something was wrong with my car. Thankfully, it turned out I had a broken serpentine belt and it could be replaced. After this incident, I have been determined to learn more about the signs of car problems and what they mean. I want to share what I am learning on a blog to help others!
